I rode the bus to work today (yesterday too)!
It was a great experience. In fact, I think we might be able to handle being a single car family (if absolutely necessary).
Why did I ride the bus? Well, it's because
kisken's car has spent the past two nights in Broomfield. You see, our well-used Cav is broken in a most irritating manner. It's broken in such a way as to be absolutely undriveable right now, but mostly functional.
( Warning, tangential ranting lies behind the cut. )
So today, Kisken and I tried the whole single car family thing. It works pretty well. The original plan was for us to leave the house at 6:30. Kisken would drop me off at work and then drive to her job.
That part didn't work so well.
We didn't hit the road until almost 7, and the later you leave, the longer it takes. Fortunately, it occurred to me that I have a spiffy new EcoPass on my id badge, and the busses from Aurora are pretty regular. So we stopped at the park on the corner of Alameda and Colorado. I crossed the street to the bus stop and Kisken headed south work.
The bus arrived within 3 minutes of my arrival at the bus stop, and I was at work by 7:30. Kisken made it to her job a few minutes early too! All told, it was a very positive public transportation experience.

Oh and for those of you who care: I've been at work by 8:30 three of the past four days (yesterday, I was in by 10:30--I had a Dr.'s appointment). I've also exercised every day this week (though I only got in about 20 minutes this morning). We'll call it 3 for 4. Only 258 more work days to go.
